Sounds of Healing Concert Raises Funds for Komma & Allam Memorial Fountain

Sounds of Healing Concert for Memorial Garden
From left to right: Richard Vlosky, Faculty Advisor, International Student Association at LSU (ISA-LSU); Cathleen Williams, President, LSU Chapter-Gamma Sigma Delta (GSD); Witoon Prinyawiwatkul, Treasurer, GSD; Ping Xu, President, ISA-LSU; Samudrala Vamshi, President, LSU Indian Student Association; and Maureen Hewitt, Director, International Cultural Center

Recognizing the healing and uplifting power of music, the “Sounds of Healing” concert series returned to the LSU International Cultural Center on May 1st. Begun as a means of lending support and calling attention to international disaster relief projects, the concert series presented an evening of hopeful and engaging music in an acoustic setting. The Sounds of Healing VIII concert raised over $1,000 for a memorial garden to be built at LSU in remembrance of Chadrasekhar Komma and Kiran Allam, international students slain in 2007. This included a $300 contribution from the Indian Student Association at LSU. The concert was sponsored by the LSU Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture and Allied Sciences. Featured this year were Richard Vlosky, James Vlosky, Sean Williams, the Sarah Pierce Band from Austin, Texas, and Baton Rouge-based Smithfield Fair. Donations for the Memorial can be made online (through PayPal) at the Gamma Sigma Delta website (www.gsd.lsu.edu.)
