Committees:
Descriptions & Responsibilities
ADMINISTRATION
  • Nominating Committee:
    1. Shall submit a slate of at least one active member nominee for each office to be filled, with the opportunity for nominations for individual offices from the floor, to the assembled membership at the spring business meeting, and  
    2. The nominating committee shall, as soon as its nominees are identified (a minimum of two weeks prior to the spring business meeting), provide the Historian the names of the nominees for each open office for publishing on the Chapter’s website.

  • Audit Committee:
    1. Shall be appointed by the president or the president’s representative,
    2. The number of members shall be at the discretion of the appointing officer, and
    3. This committee shall audit the financial records of this Chapter when directed to do so by the executive committee or a three-fourths vote of the active members present and voting. Quorum rules to be in effect.

  • Membership Committee:
    1. Shall be responsible for nominating juniors and seniors for membership, and
    2. Shall secure nominations for alumni, graduate students, Veterinary Medicine students, faculty, and honorary members from the membership.

  • Publicity & Public Relations Committee:
    1. Shall be appointed by the president or the president’s representative. The number of committee members shall be at the discretion of the appointing officer.
    2. This Committee shall be responsible for publicity including:
      1. The promotion of this Chapter,
      2. Encouraging student enrollment in the College of Agriculture and the School of Veterinary Medicine of Louisiana State University, and
      3. Promotion of agriculture in general.
OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Fall Initiation Committee:
    1. Shall be appointed by the president or the president’s representative, and
    2. The number of members shall be at the discretion of the appointing officer.
    3. The committee shall be responsible for planning and executing all aspects of the fall initiation reception including securing a venue and arranging for catered meal and coordinating with other committees as required.

  • Spring Banquet/Reception Committee:
    1. Shall be appointed by the president or the president’s representative, and
    2. The number of members shall be at the discretion of the appointing officer.
    3. The committee shall be responsible for planning and executing all aspects of the spring banquet including securing a venue and arranging for catered meal and coordinating with other committees as required.
SPONSORED ACTIVITIES
  1. Shall be responsible for exploring, evaluating, proposing and executing new projects and sponsored activities.
  2. Projects approved by this committee shall be presented to the executive committee for its consideration and possible action, and
  3. The membership shall be informed of the disposition of projects considered by the executive committee.

  • Science Fair Committee:
    1. Shall be appointed by the president or the president’s representative,
    2. The number of members shall be at the discretion of the appointing officer, and
    3. The committee shall be responsible for securing judges, judging state science/social studies fair entries that are agricultural in nature, and making awards to the students selected as winners.

  • Lecture Series Committee:
    1. Shall be appointed by the president or the president’s representative,
    2. The number of members shall be at the discretion of the appointing officer, and
    3. The committee shall be responsible for securing at least two (2) guest lecturers (1 for fall semester; 1 for spring semester), reserving room, arranging for audio/visual needs and promoting the lectures.

  • Graduate Student Graduation Receptions Committee:
    1. Shall be appointed by the president or the president’s representative,
    2. The number of members shall be at the discretion of the appointing officer, and
    3. The committee shall be responsible for planning and executing receptions at the end of fall and spring semesters for graduating graduate students.

  • Ice Cream Social Committee:
    1. Shall be appointed by the president or the president’s representative,
    2. The number of members shall be at the discretion of the appointing officer, and
    3. The committee shall be responsible coordinating with Dairy Science faculty members for planning and executing an ice cream social to be held spring semester for undergraduate students.
AWARDS
  1. This committee shall be responsible for establishing and amending criteria for selection of nominees, obtaining nominations, and selecting recipients for the following awards:

  • The Distinguished Achievement in Agriculture Committee
    • Gamma Sigma Delta Member Award of Distinguished Achievement

  • The Alumni Award by a Gamma Sigma Delta Member Committee
    • Gamma Sigma Delta member Alumni Award of Merit

  • Undergraduate Student Awards Committee
    • Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Scholarship Recognition Certificates

  • Graduate Student Awards Committee
    • Masters Student(s) of Highest Distinction (GPA)
    • PhD Student(s) of Highest Distinction (GPA)

  • Teacher Merit Honor Roll Committee
    • Certificates of Merit.

  • Teaching, Research & Extension Faculty Awards
    • Faculty members in these three areas that exhibit highest distinction in scholarship, contribution and excellence.
